Growing up in Philadelphia in the 1940-1950's we lived in a row house in North Philadelphia. Every day we could have fresh foods delivered. Milk, cream, sour cream, orange juice, cottage cheese, cream cheese, fresh baked bread, rolls, cinnamon buns, fruit hucksters, ice-delivery man, coal delivers.

These sometimes were still using horse drawn-wagons, for fruit hucksters, with swinging scales in the back of the wagon. I remember smelling the organic "road apples" which brought the farm to Philly row houses. Fresh South Jersey peaches and freshly pick ears of corn from the dutch country.

In the winter coal trucks would jockey around bell ringing trolley cars. Ding Ding! Ding Ding!
